North to South: A Journey Through the Okanagan Valley

For the month of May I had the wonderful opportunity to exhibit my work with fellow artist (and friend!) Melanie Fenton at Gallery Vertigo in Vernon, BC.

Having my own art exhibition has always been a dream of mine, and when I saw that Gallery Vertigo was accepting proposals for exhibition ideas last year, my first thought was, “This would be amazing to do with Melanie!” Our work is unique and yet compliments each others well. Plus it was way less daunting working together on this exhibit!

Our idea behind the exhibit, which we titled, “North to South: A Journey Through the Okanagan Valley,” was to join the whole of the Okanagan Valley together. We live in such a beautiful valley with a diverse and unique landscape. With me being on the north end in Vernon, and Melanie in the south in Peachland, we represent opposite ends and distinct styles, yet both the same valley.

When the viewer walked around the gallery, they went on a visual journey of the Okanagan; beginning with the Enderby Cliffs and traveling all the way around to the south in Osoyoos. Some of the locations were iconic views while others were just the ordinary everyday views that we so often take for granted.

Setting up the exhibition together

Planning and setting up the exhibit was a lot of fun, and really rewarding seeing all of our hard work come together.

Opening reception

We are so thankful for everyone who braved the pouring rain to come to our opening reception for the exhibit. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting and celebrating and witnessing the community come together and enjoy our work. Being able to see people connect with your art is such a joy! We left with full hearts.

Our names are on the wall! Woo hoo!

A few comments left by those who visited the exhibit:

The exhibit was on display at Gallery Vertigo in Vernon, BC from May 3-28.
